I personally blame the regular Americans. The ones who buy SUVs, ,and buy gas like it is koolaid. American's are so entitled to get what we want that we never cut back on anything, we just ignore the price and keep on driving, We Americans like to be Environmentally wise, so we don't dig wells off of our own coast lines, or our states that are full of oil. This way we concerve our enviroment. But, we still don't mind Getting our gas and oil from other countries. where the fight for money, control and dominence keep us all shooting at each other. There is yet another war so the prices shoot up. If we really cared we would do something about it. We never do anythinng about it, so the prices just sour. We are busy and we have importnat things to do and places to go. So, we pay no matter what the price

Until we cut back on our use and also find alternative energy, then will the prices go down.

Supply & demand. WE don't demand and the supply price goes down.

Would someone please post true information rather than all this conspiracy and evil corporations bull! The government may be partially to blame for the high gas prices, I don't claim to know all that goes on there, but trust me, they are not in some conspiracy trying to shaft all of us! Check out http://www.grants.gov and search for grant opportunities, try "environment", "energy", or "transportation". If the government was trying to supress us why would they be giving away all this money for research into alternative fuels?
There's a good starter, there's plenty more. Almost every state DOT has bonuses and incentives for creating alternative fueling sites. Here's my state: http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/biofuel/application.htm
If the oil companies are so evil and are preventing new technology or trying to screw us over explain why Shell, BP, and Chevron execs and engineers have been showing up at fuel cell and hydrogen economy conferences. They aren't trying to suppress any technology, they are a company and they realize that they must embrace new technology or be outdated and go under. No one is trying to stop new alternative fuels from reaching the market, the technology is still developing and it just takes time.
There are tons variables for why gas prices are the way they are and I hate to hear ignorant people claiming to know the one answer. The government may have a part, oil companies probably aren't doing their best, but to "blame" gas prices on one source just shows ignorance.

the evil corporations...it's all the same gang, they all know each other and set prices, they control the governments, and usually are part of some kind of club to make more money...of course since they control everything, it's in their interest to keep the rich on top and the poor at the bottom..they need that in order to continue making money...
think about it, if they really wanted to make an alternate ressource that is more environment friendly, i'm pretty sure they would have done so...
it took the evil corporations about 15 years to deploy the internet and making it a common means of communication....
how long does it take to development a car that runs on solar power, electricity, hydrogen, ethanol, water, nuclear,...but you know what...where's the money if you make something that can be reused at a very little cost, that doesn't break....it's like light bulbs

Myself - for continuing to buy their overpriced addiction causing fuel. Do you realize what the prices are around the world? Oslo, Norway = over $7/gal and Venezuela $.25/gal.... Get perspective!

You can't really blame any one group. The car manufacturers, oil companies, government, and the boneheads who continue to drive massive 4x4s and Hummers are all partially to blame.

Who do you blame for bad weather? - it just happens, what's the point blaming someone. There are many reasons why this happens, just buy more economical car, that's it.

the oil companies for not building more refineries even though they've known for 30 years they can't keep up with demand and also for not looking into and developing alternate energy sources.
