Sorry hun, mine was the Queen of the Damned. She actually made my son choose between me and her....you heard right! So don't try claiming that honor from mine. Thank goodness she is my ex mother in law. After 24 years of marriage we parted and this vicious woman was waiting to instantly help him get over me. We could have made it if it wasn't for this precious so called Christian woman. She did all sorts of strange stuff. She thought herself a prophet from God. I was another race and too tall and she would do vicious things. After I had my baby she called my weight out behind my back while I was bent over my newborn picking him up. She declared loudly that I now weigh more than her. Hugs honey. Hang in there. Remember she is his mother but YOU are his wife and he needs to remember that.
I found the more I fought her the stronger she became. Be the angel of mercy, it kills them. Kind of like super man and kryptonite....serious....angel of mercy....kills them.

I suggest you and your MIL (mother in law) watch that movie of Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda (i forget the title, sorry) about mother in laws.... its hilarious, it might just shake your mother in law into accepting you as a daughter. Not all mother in laws are the Queen of the Damned but its a matter of trying to find out how to get to her "soft" spot. Its great if you two could get along, I get along fine with mine even if its a roller coaster ride with her for the past 15 years..... its been worth it.

Mine was horrible at first and the grand mother in-law too. I just loved them anyways. I didn't let them walk on me, but I tried to overlook things and be nice so it would build a relationship. It worked. They both love me and think I'm a great mom. They still annoy me sometimes, but they don't rule my life.

You're going to hate me, but mine is my best friend. I've joked that I only stay with my husband to keep his family (well, maybe not joking). Try really hard to be her friend. My mother in law and I go to a movie together every Sunday afternoon. You should invite her -- maybe it'll make things go in the right direction.

Mine's not exactly my mother-in-law yet... but we get along great. Sometimes, mother's are just over protective of their children and don't want to see them getting married, that's all. Hopefully it's just a phase.

No someone told me that all are not, but it took me 30 long awful years to learn that for myself.
I allowed my Mother-in-law to have complete control over my family and myself, just because I wanted to be accepted.
Well, I was lucky enough to go to consulting and learn that I was just as good as her or anyone else. It actually took me about one year of avoiding her to be able to start enjoying my life again. She must have noticed that I wasn't coming to the family get togethers and actually started calling me and sending me nice little cards.
All, I had to do was to put myself first and not allow her to be in control of me anymore.
