No women don't have to see a gyn for BC. They can go to their primary care physician, family physician, or general practitioner. Once diagnosed they can even be followed by a nurse practitioner for future appointments (they have more time to talk, explain things and are usually less expensive.) If the gyn exam is abnormal though one should request to be referred to a gynecologist. She will be better at making the proper diagnosis and prescriptions.

Any primary care physician can prescribe BC pills. There is no need to go to a gynecologist. A pap smear is required but a primary care physician should be able to do that as well. If you want an IUD for BC you may have to see a gyn for insertion but otherwise your normal doctor should be able to take care of it.

to the best of my knowledge you must go through a gyno to get it because you have to have an exam before they perscribe it. That is of course in my experience so there may be another way that is either under the table but i woudlnt' trust it, Just do it the right way for your own health. Good luck and be safe.
