There are days I crave raw meat..yes, i know you think that's disgusting but it works for me. I wouldn't be physically satisfied with vegetables and I do "need" meat in my diet. I grew up on a farm and we butchered our own. I know where meat comes from, what it entails to eat it, and I honour the life it once had and will have again. If you'd like to be a vegetarian, you have my blessings. I'll indulge in some nice red and yellow peppers with you.

You don't necessarily need meat, but you do need protein. If you choose to follow a vegetarian diet, for whatever reason, you must have some sort of protein to stay healthy. Some vegetarians have eggs or milk products but not actual meat, and some get protein from plant sources like beans and soy products. You also need to eat iron-rich leafy green veggies or take a multivitamin with iron to make up for the iron you'd get from red meat.
As to whether humans were meant to eat meat, well, yes but not exclusively. Humans, like many other animals, are omnivores. That means we can eat both flesh and plants, and can eat one or the other exclusively for a while if need be; however, we were not designed to always live exclusively on one or the other. Cows and rabbits and the like (herbivores) have special digestive systems to help them break down the amazing mass of plant material they must consume, just as carnivores (and ourselves) have developed sharp teeth but lost the extra bit of our digestive system. That does not mean we have to hunt down a gazelle on the savannah to survive, but we can't make a meal out of lawn clippings either. If you are an animal lover, by all means follow your heart, but be careful about getting the right nutrients in your diet.

No I don't think we NEED meat. Actually our teeth are better suited for a non-meat diet. I know people who have been vegatarians all of their lives and are very healthy. The trick is to get enough protein and not load up on fattening veggie foods (potatoe chips, cheese). I eat meat but I disagree with the methods of factory farming, I try and buy organic whenever possible. People need to eat what's right for them, don't worry about what others think.

We may not need meat, but the body can't live without protein though it can without carbohydrates. Meat is the source richest in protein with the exception of eggs. You can live without meat, but you'll have to find something that will provide enough protein for you to live healthfully.

We need protein and meat is a great source. There are other sources of protein but none quite as tasty as a medium well steak.

We have incisor teeth for a reason. Your brain and muscles need lots of protein. The best source of that is meat.

I don't think so. I don't eat meat for health reasons--heart disease runs in my family, and my cholesterol tends to border on high--and I feel better without it.
