Buckcherry has been good. Korn is still rockin. Audioslave was alright. Metallica is just odd, now ( wow, that hurts to say).

It just seems like the music I knew and loved was short lived. Long live the late 80s and early 90s, huh?? lol

I want to hear about bands that you think will last throughout the ages.... what bands will you want to listen to years from now? Appetite for Destruction will never die. The Black Album will forever be. I mean.. even bands like AC/DC will live forever. What bands today have THAT power?

I kinda thought the Seattle-type bands of the early 1990s. saved rock. Hair bands were too silly and simplistic, Cripes, I only played guitar for a couple years and I played more complex chord structures. So I actually stopped listening to new music for a couple years.

Then I was watching SNL one night and this band called Pearl Jam was on. I couldn't believe it, by the end of the first song (I think it was "Alive") I looked at my wife and said "Holy sh-t, it's about f---ing time." The next day I went out and found the cd. I felt the same way when I first saw Stevie Ray Vaughn live.

Those groups brought back great musicianship and songwriting. I think mainstream music has strayed a bit from it lately, but I can always pull out my Pearl Jam, Led Zep, RATM, and Alanis (yes, Alanis) cds whenever I need to hear great songwriting and musicianship.

I totally agree with everything that you wrote. I long for the days when there were real rock'n roll bands. The weekend before last I went and saw Cinderella and Poison. What a great oldschool rock'n roll show. However, it just makes me long for the days when there were many good ole rock'n roll bands putting out tunes.

I dont know old you are, but I am 28...and as far as I am concerned Appetite for Destruction was the best Album of our generation. Heck, I have it in my car right now. I go through long stints without listening to it, but then, when I bust it out, I am just amazed at how much I love each and every song.

I don't know what is going to save rock music. It just seems that ever since that sad, growning, whining version of grunge came out that most, what could be rock bands, have followed down that road of growling, making depressing sounding music that, for some reason, people think means something. It is messed up to me.

I hate to say this, but here it goes...the closest thing to rock music right now is coming out of the new wave country scene. Bands like Big'n Rich, Montgomery Gentry, etc...even old school acts like Hank Jr and Charlie Daniels are playing more rock type music these days. It's almost, as if, rock music has become marginalized because it isnt hard enough for the rock stations and "popular" music stations only play hip hop. It's like the only place they have to go is to the country stations or to forget radio all together like bands such as Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident, Jack Johnson, etc. have.

It is all jacked up!

Great question! I just feel fortunate that I got to grow up with good tunes....got to see G'nR and Metallica together at Arrowhead Stadium in their prime, etc.

Stay Up Playa!

its impossible to say at this point with all of these absolutly terrible pop rock bands on the market no one seems to want to make meaningful metal any more. watch for the deftones though...if they can reach out to a broader audience they could take the metal world by storm also Tool makes absolutly stunning albums that everyone seems to overlook. sur ethey get airtime in singles but their full albums are what make them a lasting force. dmagaeplan had great potential but with the death of dimebag so went their chance of saving rock oh well hopefully someone will come around in the vein of faith no more and just blow everyone away with their originality and unique look at the genre while still maintaining an undeniable power. if only mushroomhead had made a bigger splash ..then i think we'd be ok.
