The first three are a good place to start and are, in order, Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon. My personal favorite is a collection of short stories about Pern, called The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall. After you read the first three, you might try this one or Dragonsdawn, a prequel. From there, try looking in the front of one of the books. The paperbacks all list the books in order of publication plus many of the other books by Anne McCaffrey.

i think there are 6 major books, then 10-12 minor books, all interelated. i don't remember the order, but if you go to a bookstore, just read the order of publication. each and every book is a story unto itself, but also relates to the other books in the series. all in all, though, it's great reading. enjoy!
