Is there an alternative to the Gameshark "memory card"?

I'm playing silent hill right now, on the PS2, but i've come to a boss with no ammo and very little health. I have a gameshark that i used to use a long time ago, one with the disk and gameshark card that goes in the memory card slot. I have the disk, but can't find the card.. will an extra regular memory card work in its place? is there anything else i can do?

The game shark with the memory card, the CDX, is old school. It is for the PS one. I'd go out and buy a code breaker. They are about 20 bucks and have a ton of codes. There is the Action Replay, but it is more expensive and the code breaker is essentially the same thing.
Other than to break out the melee weapons that's about as good as it gets.
