I think that it is an atrocity and that Lebanon is caught up in the middle of 3 things:

1. Israel wanting to destroy Hezbollah once and for all.
2. Bush wanting to use Israel as an excuse to conquer the rest of the middle east.
3. Hezbollah wanting to destroy Israel.

Unfortunately, you have the Lebanese people stuck right in the center of all this.

It is truly tragic. Hezbollah's actions in taking the two soldiers in the first place was provocation for Israel to take some action; however, the action Israel has taken has been overkill to say the very least. Furthermore, Israel's actions and the Bush administration's support thereof has only further damaged our image within the international community. How could any country think that Israel or the US has the best interest of its people at heart when they witness the US going into Iraq, and Israel going into Lebanon, both arrogantly asserting their will on the people of those countries while at the same time killing and maiming their citizens. This is nothing more than "hook or crook" foreign policy that I fear will only have lasting ramifications and increase the likelihood of further terrorist activities. If I find it repulsive and sickening but am only having to watch whats going on from the sidelines, I can only imagine how those who are suffering the direct repercussions must feel - anger, distrust, the desire to retaliate by any means possible including more subversive attacks. Sure, I'm really feeling a lot safer from the threat of terrorism - NOT!

Gday, Mr Cornpie,

Thank you for your question.

We need to find a longterm solution as soon as possible.

The conflict has killed many civilians, caused widespread damage, displaced many people and disrupted normal life across most of Lebanon and northern Israel. Both sides attacks on civilian population centers and infrastructure have drawn sharp criticism internationally. It also risks spreading if Iran and Syria become involved.

I have attached more resources for further research.

Regards

Israel is out of line I think. Not that Hezbollah is really justified in their actions either. One part of me wants to just let them kill each other. But it's just so pathetic over there, these people fighting holy wars over some of the worst land in the world, it's not farmable and it's just a bunch of sand and rocks. I bet if you asked some people on either side they couldn't even tell you why the region has always been fighting other than "Because they are muslims/Jews".
