well heres how it goes. the spartan back in roman times was considered to be the elite of greeces warriors. and they stated in many halo 3 trailers that they wanted to give master chief a more earthy feel. hence so many references to the cradle of life. such as the place were most of the war takes place in africa. but this is mostly takeing it all from what i read on old sites and piecing it together from the h3 officall trailer. as for 117 eh who knows maybe 116 master chiefs died b4 117 lol.
