I don't think it was founded or American. Wasn't part of that Canadian or part of the French province that became the Lousiana Purchase?

All the Colonial states were near the seaboard.

Michigan was British owned at the time, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan, so it had little participation since most of its' inhabitants weren't "Americans"

Little to none, not many people if any lived there. If anybody lived there they were running small trading posts in the middle of nowhere and the war didn't really concern them.
