Only shimmys at braking at speeds above 40mph.

The new rotors are on the car. I tried having the old rotors turned but they made the car shimmy so i bought new ones.

Take those new rotors back off and back to the parts store because they are warped. Get your money back and buy another set, preferably that are not warped out of the box. Make sure you clean the new rotors with brake cleaner before you install them, they are coated with oil from the factory to inhibit rust.

1. You may have possibly overtightened / over-torqued the wheels lug-nuts after replacing the pads which can also warp the rotors.

2. A steering wheel shimmy can be caused by a number of different reasons that may be brake related, but can also be either wheel/tire related and/or suspension related.

3. you say you "...replaced the pads and bought new rotors...". Did you install the new rotors as well, or are you still riding on the old ones.

First, did you clean the new rotors with brake parts cleaner? They have to be oil/rust inhibitor (Cosmolene) free, or you'll glaze the pads. Second, someone mentioned you may have warped rotors. This may be the case, EVEN if they're new. It depend on if they were stacked flat during transport to the store or at the store. You can resurface them... I've had to do it with a BRAND NEW set, and it's aggravating. Or you can return them to the parts store and exchange them. (ONLY with a receipt and if they aren't, say, over 30 days old? Also, clean the pads with Brake cleaner and don't OVER tighten your lug nuts after the job is complete. Over torqueing the lugs MAY warp new rotors. Good Luck!

you must have bought a warped rotor, probably need to be resurfaced, you can try going about 25 and apply the parking brake lightly and see if it shimmys, if it doesn't that will tell you that it is the front and then you wil know for sure. Depending on how long you bought them, you might be able to get them replaced for free

This is probably just the pad wearing down. It is natural, but shouldn't last very long after installing the new stuff.

You may have a tire problem. Check for a tire out of round or with a broken belt.
