Difficult to answer your question because there are so many types of arthritis!! But rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common among adults and elderly, followed by Osteoarthritis (OA),
If you have RA: Avoid red meat, shell fishs, cold weather nad take multivitamins to maintain your healh as RA may attack your lungs and/or kidneys later!!!

The best thing for arthritis is to see your doctor. He can prescribe a long acting non steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). Because you don't say whether it is osteo or rheumatoid arthritis, I can't and shouldn't say more. Only your doctor can prescribe the best medication and best treatment for you.

i assume osteoarthritis. for this take glucosamine and chondroitin supplements to help replenish the synovial fluid and reduce pain in the joints

if it is cold agrevated, then avoid cold. there are some oils to make your body massage in ayurvedic. what i feel, the best medicines are available for ayurvedic/natural remedies
consult an ayurvedic docotor.
