Its the frequency of the sound. Some sounds tend to project more realistically through the TV than others. I am always getting tricked by the NEXTEL beep when I hear it on TV thinking that its my phone.

Digital broadcasts, great sound and speakers + the phone itself is a pretty simple sound from it's source in your house, so it's not that hard to reproduce or to get fooled by as would , say , someone calling you from the next room.

Because you don't see it coming, and because sound effects are usually louder and clearer than usual dialog. With a decent sound setup, the effects are more encompassing, too, so after listening to people speaking aminly coming from the centre speaker, you suddenly get the phone from all around.

The other night, I was fooled by a TV phone ring, and I was so outraged, I simply got down on my knees and prayed we won't get fooled again. Yeah.

what happens is the tv that is reproducing the sound of the phone has a similar electronic resonance pattern because it is a small [electrical] device with similar components...since they both produce electronically reproduced sound and their capabilities are close--{{{shazzzaaaaam!}}} the [[[electric]]] bell; sounds the same... ??????????????
