Actually have "thoughts of suicide" as a side-effect ?

The FDA requires that medication guidelines be dispensed with most antidepressants, the main concern is the risk for suicidal ideation. What happens when someone starts taking an antidepressant, the initial lift of seratonin (or other neurotransmitters i.e. norephinephrine) acts upon energy levels first, before the actual depression feeling. Lethargy is a common factor in depression, so someone can theoretically be suicidal but not have enough activating energy to act out those thoughts, so the lag time between the energy boost and the mood switch is a time period where the suicide is possible.

Bitterly ironic. For that one specifically, it's actually because for MDD (as opposed to disthymia), people often literally don't have the energy to worry about suicide. When the meds are just starting to work, they might. So that one makes sense. I got pissed that they also have EVERY OTHER major symptom of depression as a side effect (changes in eating / sleeping etc).

Okey dokey if your not a mind reader you took the words right out of my mouth. I told that to my doctor after looking up meds on web doctor if such a side effect is possible then why is it prescribed. She says it has multiple applications and in some people without depression it can cause it was her professional answer. Hope I answered your question accurately enough. Have a :-) day.
