It always feels like it's 1000 degrees in my car even with the heat off. I'm thinking it could be my radiator but I'm not sure. Any help would be much appreciated.

The heater shut off valve is not closing completely.

When you select "hot" or "cold" on your heater control, all you are doing is controlling a valve in a hot water hose between the heat exchanger in the cab of your car (a small radiator under the dash). The heater uses the same hot water/antifreeze that cools your engine and is circulated through the radiator. When you select H you should be opening the valve completely, and when you select C it should be closed completely. Obviously the valve or the rigging is defective.

You didn't say what kind of a car, but try looking under the hood near the firewall while somebody else works the control, and look for the valve and cable assembly moving on a black hot water hose maybe 1 or 1.5" in diameter. Try closing it completely by hand, if its just a rigging problem that should fix it.

Another temporary solution is to put a manual valve in the hot water line to close it for the summer. Of course you need to replace the valve or fix the rigging for a more permanent fix.

it sounds like the heater control switch has gone bad,,and it isn't shutting off the heat completely,,i run a repair shop,,and see this a lot,,and I'm guessing you car has air on it to,,most of the newer cars have vacuum controlled switches on them,,and when they go bad,,all you get is a lot of heat ,,it can be replaced though,,you an get a good used one from a junk yard,,there not that expensive to buy,,and only takes a little while to install,,i hope this help,s,,i do it for a living.
