You can NOT spoil a 4 month old! The immunizations are probably the problem...It's hard, but you basically have to just grin and bear it...sounds pretty much like you have given him everything that I would have suggested...If he doesn't clear up in the next 24-48 hours, then I would call and ask your Doctor...Sorry, I been there too...It's no fun!

Added...just keep an eye on the injection sites for any abnormal lumps, bumps, pain, swelling, or redness...if you do see this, call the Doctor immediately!

OK, YOU CANNOT SPOIL A 4 MONTH OLD!!!!!! He's going to want to be held.. if you are breastfeeding, offer that to him. try rubbing his tummy in an upside down "u" shape, starting at his right hip, across his tummy right below his ribcage, and down the side to his left hip. GENTLY though.
He's gonna be clingy, and he's gonna want to be held. That's the best thing to do.
Put a damp washcloth in the freezer to get cold and let him chew on it if he's teething. You may have to walk the hall with him a bit, try rocking him, and remember, he's only this tiny for a short period of time. The cranky-ness wont last forever! If it gets so bad, and you get reallllll tired and can't handle it, call your mom, a friend anyone YOU trust with your baby so you can take a shower, a nap, even a walk.
Also, with the tylenol, you can alternate with baby ibuprofen, sometimes every 2 hours (but call the pediatrician first!!!) and that'll help.
The most important thing is to love your baby, hug him, comfort him and remember it will get better soon!

He may just need a little extra comforting.

Have you tried the five S's?
Swaddle -- wrap him up tight, keep his arms down to his sides and his legs immobilized. He'll fight it at first but after you add the other S's...
Side-lying -- Hold him on his side facing away from your body
Shushing -- Just like it sounds. Do it as loud as he's crying. Also try radio static, the dryer, ocean sounds, hair dryer, vacuum cleaner
(Ah! I forgot the actual word for this S!) -- jiggle him a little bit. let his head move around in your hand a little. Bounce up and down a little. Don't give him shaken baby syndrome or anything...
Swing -- Try walking him around or swaying back and forth in your chair or use a rocking chair.
Suck -- Pacifier or breast or finger or whatever he likes best. Wait until he's started to calm down though or the pacifier will just fall out of his mouth...

I learned these in birthing class and they worked MIRACLES with my son. It is supposed to remind them of being in the womb which calms them. If he's just fussy and/or uncomfortable, a combination of several of those things simultaneously should help him calm down. I know ocean sounds put me to sleep...

My pediatrician actually said that she likes her patients to be a little fussy and have a bit of a fever after an immunization. It means their immune systems are reacting to the immunization and building antibodies.

If he absolutely won't calm down, I would call the pediatrician before giving him more medicine. While everyone has good intentions, everyone is going to have a different reason why he is crying and they might all be wrong. I wouldn't give him any more medicine than you already have since those things haven't seemed to work yet.

My son was really fussy after his first round of immunizations for a couple of days but on the 4th day he finally calmed down and had about a day when he slept a little extra. Hang in there! It won't last forever. :)

Sometimes there is no answer. My boys has gas problems often and we gave the gas drops frequently. Is it possible he is still hungry or thirsty? Shots have a different effects on children. You might try some motion like a swing or a walk in the stroller. If all else fails call the Doctor. This is a hard question to answer even if the child were here all we can do is guess. Good luck.

P.S. I would like 5 minutes alone with the person who suggested smacking the child. Not only is it not funny it is completely out of line in this forum. Any forum. I can assure you that comment would bring violent retaliation if you were in my presence.

If he's so fussy, how do you have time to come here to ask a question?

If he really is fussy, has he given up a burp? Sometimes it's realy hard to get them to burp. If he has burped, is he constipated? If so, put a teaspoon of corn syrup in his bottle, he'll move by morning. At four months old, you may feel teeth but the won't come out for a few months. Don't over medicate him either. You can try gripe water. And when all else fails, just snuggle him and rock him. Babies cry for a reason, just make him comfortable.

DON"T PANIC! Sounds like your doing what you can. babies are USUALLY fussy after an immunization. Keep an eye on the injection site, and call the doc if the reddness expands, in the meantime, Try putting a Cool damp washcloth on the shot site, stay calm yourself, and remember, crying is the ONLY way he has to tell you that he's not feeling so good, tired, wet, hungry, etc... that's a LOT to expect a mom to decipher after only 4 months... GO WITH YOUR GUTS... hold him if it helps, get someone to come over and sit with him so you can take a shower or go sit on the back step for 5 minutes, and don't panic. Your doing everything you can... and that's FINE. If he starts acting lethargic, or stiff, call the doc... also, there is an Ask a nurse website... keep at it... :-)

This happens , at 4 months old especially. The older they get the better it goes with the shots. It makes them very cranky. My son just got his 4 year old shots 2 days ago and you'd never know. But when they are as small as yours is then it's hard on them. He should be fine by tomorrow. If he is teething my Dr. told me not to lay them flat, prop their head up so that the blood wouldn't go to his head. This makes the pain in their gums pound or throb. Gas drops won't help constipation, 4 oz water and 1tsp sugar...this was also told to me by my Dr. I have three kids 15, 9, 4 and this advice from my doctor worked for me.

I'll put in my two cents, being the only guy so far with some advice... I'm gonna brag for a second and say that I was the one taking care of my daughter all through the early years with all the same problems. On to my answer...

He's probably most irrated from the teeth coming in. You may want to give him something cold to suck on... that helped my daughter when she was getting her teeth. Otherwise, he may be irrated about being constipated... I know I am when I get constipated... :) I don't think it's from the shot, but then again, I'm not a doctor. But I think if you give him some Tylenol and somthing to suck on cold, he may calm down... plus he is a baby... they tend to do that.

Good Luck

First, RELAX!!!!!! Don't pick him up all the time. That way he doesn't get really used to you picking him up. He will cry no matter what. 45 minutes before he gets shots, give him the Tylenol. Teething rings really don't work. Try giving him a cool wash cloth to sooth his gums. Baby oragel takes time to kick in just like any other medicine. Try play some soft music for him, to help him go to sleep. Be thankful you only have one. I have twin, so just imagine. Anywho, I wish the best for y'all.

ok nmber one...u arent spoiling him or anything at all

number two...DO NOT SMACK HIM THAT IS RUDE!!!

and the best thing to do is just keep giving him the gas drops and the tylenol for his teeth and stuff cuz it will help both

it is just a stage they go through that they are very cranky but it will pass

just dont let it bother u and if u feel he has gas they like to be layed and there bellies across your knees it pushes out gas alot cuz babys that age seem to get gas alot! so he could have bad gas and it could hurt
