At what age should girls be told about menstruation? and Is it OK to use nicknames for private parts?

I remember learning about it in 5th grade. They gave us pamphlets I read from front to back. If anything I would provide as much age appropriate reading material as possible. I know I didn't want my mom to find out I was reading about it but i wished I had more information back then.

I wouldn't use nicknames.. I would use the real names.
I would start talking about it in generalities at age 7 or so especially if she is starting to show some secondary sexual characteristics such as breast budding.
Basically the rule is, 2-3 years after they show secondary sexual characteristics such as pubic hair, breast buds, etc.... that the periods will start.

Girls should be told as soon as they show curiosity about their bodies.

As for using cutsy nicknames for body parts, I wouldn't.

they should be introduced to the subject as early as they are able to understand the concepts. and for part two, its ok so long as they know the real names

my parents never told me. i learned about it in school wen i was in 5th grade.im accually glad my mom didnt say anything about it.
