It's 83 degrees in my house, and my dad refuses to turn on the air. I've tried opening all the windows at night, and then closing them in the morning, but it doesn't cool down in the house. What can I do to make it cooler?

The reason is because the change of Body temp from hot outside to cold inside, quickly, instead of gradually, can mess up your immune system and makes you get sick easier...we have a pool, but it is such warm water, it is not very refreshing...

Tie your dad up to his easy chair and turn on the AC. If that doesn't work ask him why he won't turn on the AC. If it's because of money, tell him you understand and go drink a nice tall glass of water with a big piece of squeezed lemon, or go make or buy some really good thirst quenching lemonade. I love good tart lemonade on a hot day. Make sure your drinks have plenty of ice, and make sure you make enough for your DAD.

maybe you can try getting a window unit for your bedroom, it saves a lot more energy than leaving on the air conditioner for the whole house. Use a fan and drink plenty of water. Or try to convince him to turn the air on, why is he leaving it off in the first place?

A fan is good. Apply a wet cloth to yourself, sit in front of a fan. Or drain the bath tub then go lie in it, the porcelain (or whatever) drains the heat away. Add an inch of cool water if you want, then read a book.

Get a fan and put it by your bed so you can have some fresh air blowing on your face at night. Sleep with the door open and lay on top of the covers, don't get in them.
Oh and put a sleep mask in the freezer and then put it on your forehead at night. 'Just a few suggestions. ;)

actually, the ice is an answer, but you need to get a fan, and put ice in front of it so the air blows around the ice to get to you. maybe try a glass of ice placed in front. but it will cool the air as it goes past so the air is cooler. good luck.

keep your blinds, etc. closed during the day. that will help to keep out some of the sun-rays. also, ceiling fans are great at helping to cool things down. plus it costs less to operate than a/c

Remove your dad, and turn on A/C, or get 1000 lbs of ice, and sit on it.
