My wife used olive oil to lessen the effects during her pregnancy... not sure what can be done once you have them...

Unfotunatley, there's not much that you can do toprevent them if your body decides that they're gonna happen. I kept it up with the lotions and the oils and I didn't have a single strech mark - until I hit the 8 month mark. Then I got one right by my belly button. Then I had another, and another, and they itched like crazy.

I'm certain that my itching probably made them worse than they would've been, but my little boy is almost 6 months now, and they've faded from those yucky red-purple lines to what looks like white breaks in the skin, and you can hardly see them.

Don't get me wrong, there's no bikini's to be worn, but what strech marks you do get will eventually fade, and by then, you'll probably be more worried about the spit-up running down your arm than what your belly looks like under your shirt.

Sorry stephanie d, but you can't see the stretch marks until the skin is no longer stretched, i.e. after birth. Not so lucky.

Any way you could try not gaining or losing weight and definitely don't get pregnant. You could pray for good genes. Some women get them, some don't. I have them and I embrace them, I earned them each one fair and square I wouldn't take them away for anything. stop being a dork and grow up. Your gonna be a mama.

One major key is to keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration causes much more problems!! Hyrdation keeps your skin clear, and elastic.

Any lotion will work. Try Jergens with Vitamin E. Or any lotion with Vitamin E for that matter. Always apply immediately after you shower, and reapply at night.

I personally like Softsoap's new shea butter body wash. And then I use Palmer's for stretch marks on my belly. Everywhere else, I use Jergens' with Vitamin E. And I drink plenty of water (fear of constipation keeps me drinking!). Everyone says that I have smooth, glowing skin.

Congratulations...!! You can use vitamin E, rub the content of a capsule in your belly, but stretch marks are 90% genetics, my mother didn't have them and any of my grand mothers, so I was lucky, but even if you are very careful and disciplined with rubbing your belly with whatever you choose, your genetics will determine wether you get them or not, besides I'm sorry to tell you but your body is going to change, even if you take care of yourself during pregnancy, I used to have beautiful perky breasts before my child and now, they look good, but they are far from being perky, that's a fact and you better get used to the idea right now, but a baby is so worth it, you will see...

Coco butter made me sick too. I use baby oil gel and have no stretch marks (36 weeks pregnant with my first). But maybe I was just lucky.

I use baby oil, regular lotion and I don't have any stretch marks. And I'm 34 weeks, I just have the ugly black line, it's not just on the bottom but on the top too, only thinner.

News flash: not all people get stretch marks. For those who do, the marks don't always disappear no matter what you do.

Its the luck of your genes. You cant avoid stretch marks no matter what you use. At least thats what I remember reading in "what to expect when your expecting"

Did your Mom have them? If so, sorry...genetics trumps any sort of lotion that you use. Mine did fade after pregnancy, so there is hope. Otherwise, keep your belly moisturized with whatever kind of lotion you can stand and hope for the best!
