Anime rocks. Most people just don't take the time to appreciate what an art form it is and how much goes in to making it.

Alot of it is for kids, first of all. Naruto, Inuyasha, whatever. They're all just ninja fight scenes or big explosions.
Second, Anime stories are very lame and bad. They're all the same, like a soap opera. We gathered all 16,000 rice grains (which took four seasons) but, oops! We tripped, so we have to do it all over again.
I think some of the comedies are funny, but not most of them. I love Azumanga Daioh, but because it's funny. Anime or not.
It's just that everyone in anime has the same personality. And there will usually be a school. If you see a boy that looks a certain way, you know exactly how he is going to act. And of course, he could have been a child who grew up poor on the streets, but at school he acts like none of that ever happened. So all the author has to do is take two definitely clear personalities and give them a very small MacGuffin every now and then. I feell like I could watch anime channel all day and feel like I watched one show.
And I am also tired of anime, because people see it as the ultimate form of art now. Everyone was content with American cartoon art before, but now anime is all that people want. I feel like nobody even takes the time to realize there is other art. Anime isn't even that perfect, just freeze frame one part of a drawing on your DVD. You can almost instantly see that almost every line on the people is crooked.
So, to me, anime is either an action show that's like "Wow, huge explosions! I can do that ninjuitsuhitaimisuperblast KAMEHAMEHA! MORE POWER!", or it's just the same story in a different town, with differently drawn people.
And as for anime that isn't for kids, you can't say that most animes are not a little distasteful sometimes, even kid anime. Even animes for children, they have to edit out school girl's panties flipping up and stuff.

It's not the art i hate. I hate what the art is used for.
Namely, bad comics and bad television shows/movies.
The television shows especially. The humor is never funny, the animation is always jumpy (unless it's a movie), the plot lines are always rather dull and simplistic, and the environments and characters aren't believeable in any context other than one of absurdity.
But you can't watch it in the context of absurdity, because the plots and the dialogue take everything too seriously. It's like an animated soap opera, only less believeable.
The ones that DO try to act absurd are no good either, because their target audience is always 9 year old girls (i'm a 19 year old male). Thus, again, reendering them simplistic and non-humorous.
Maybe it's because something is lost in the translation from japanese to english. I don't know. But i do know that it sucks.
(For a [non-anime] show that acts absurd and does it well, see "The Venture Brothers". )

Because the mind set of people who hate it think A) it's for kids, B) it's not funny, and/or C) it's not episodic.
Long version:
Society expects anime is for kids. If it covers topics that not for kids then it must be disgusting cartoon porn.
If the anime covers something serious expect low ratings. We want funny. You know like Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, etc. Not something different.
We want something that doesn't takes a whole season to watch. Today's episode ends today, so today's plot/storyline ends today. Don't expect attentions spans more than that of a gnat.

I know that I don't like it because of more than just the animation style. The stories are all so stupid and the characters are ridiculous caricatures. If it was just a difference of animation, I wouldn't have any problem at all with anime. I have actually seen some good anime where the story and characters weren't retarded and I liked them. I just don't like the stories most of the time.

I think it's because most people think anime consists entirely of porn. Which is not true. There is some pornographic anime out there, but no more than the nonanimated Hollywood movies do.

because anime dialogue is too redundant...whats up with describing everything your seeing and calling out every movement before a character acts...besides all the guys looks like chicks(although there are exceptions). you can never take the macho character seriously.

Most of my friends say, "It's just cartoons." They say it like I should have outgrown them or something!
I enjoy it for the artwork - especially the backgrounds and the attention to detail.

i love anime a lot. so i got nothing against it. but most of my friends hate it coz of the way it is drawn.. pointy face, sharp nose, big eyes, razorblade-like hair.. etc etc... but i think those are the things that make anime special from others, right?
