My friend and I are having an argument about pool. I sank two solid balls on the break and then missed my next shot. I called solids but he said that unless you make one in the shot after the break it is still open. I have never played that way before but a couple of other guys at the bar backed him up. Which the is correct way?

In pool, there are the Book rules, and then there are House Rules. By the book, your friends are right for most billiard/pool variations played in Bars. But, many casual players would play by your rule.

If you do not state House rules before the start of the game, then Book Rules take precedence.

Gotta agree with your friends... table was still open.
