It really depends upon where you live. In the US the rich get richer but the poor get poorer, this was not like this in the 1950's. Education has a lot to do with this (in general and not specific). In other countries the opposite is true, such as Scandinavian countries where the education system is more inclusive, but taxes are astronomical, Chile (where I live now) is facing nearly the opposite situation where the poor are starting to get richer whilst the rich do not get any richer (the rich do not need to get any richer, as the are much much much richer), this is because the education system has been opened up so as to be more inclusive. To some degree the ratio of skilled to unskilled workers dictates the wage rate, this obviously depends upon what goods a country makes and who they export to and who imports, again, in the US, exports are a tiny fraction of GDP as are imports.

Whoever that is above, many "poor people" are victims of circumstance, I am guessing you have not travelled all that much or had a difficult life. also, just to be annoying, i before e, except after c in most words except "their"

I heard this saying the rich are there to give the middle class something to strive for, the middle class are there to keep the rich, rich, and the poor are there to scare the sh*t out of the middle class.

Rephrased. The unlucky or idle stay poor, the lucky or hardworking get rich, of course that's how it goes.
