Hi Karma!

I love Edgar Allan Poe too!!! Here are some poets/authors to check out...

--Nathaniel Hawthorne is great.
--Emily Dickinson is a wonderful poet too. I love her "Because I Could Not Stop For Death" poem.
--Robert Frost is good. His poem "Fire and Ice" is one of my favorite poems. Also check out his "The Path Not Taken" poem.
--Lord Alfred Tennyson is also good. His "Lady of Shallot" poem is amazing... and Loreena McKennitt made a song out of this poem that is simply beautiful.

--Paulo Coelho wrote an amazing story worth reading. It is called "The Alchemist". Simply a breathtaking story. It reads like poetry (imho).
--Tanith Lee wrote gothic short stories (fairy tales) that I love in a book called "Red As Blood". However, Snow White is evil, Cinderella is evil and the best story of all, a Beauty and the Beast re-telling, will blow your mind.
--Angela Carter wrote a collection of dark short stories in a book called "The Bloody Chamber". That book is most known for her short story called "In the Company of Wolves" which was made into a movie back in the 1980's.
--Jeanette Winterson is an amazing writer. I recommend "The Power Book" if you are old enough to read it (high sexual content). I love this book... it has many interesting stories... but it is not for everyone. The main character Ali (narrator) is "sex-less", meaning that you cannot tell if Ali is a man or a woman. Ali weaves stories for people via the internet. The stories are sometimes dark and have very unusual twists and endings.

Best Wishes... T.

I haven't read much Plath, but I've read almost everything Poe published, and it'd be very difficult for anyone to match--or even come close to matching--his poetry. Some of Nathaniel Hawthorne's prose takes on a similar tone as Poe's though. Honestly, that's about the only thing that even comes close to Poe's work, in my opinion.

Ted Hughes, Plath's husband, is similar in some ways. So are Howard Hart and Kathleen Fraser.
