Probably normal......I had an '89 accord that did the same thing....
Unless your engine is running hot while driving, the "Check Engine" light is on, or if the fan stops working, then I wouldn't worry about it.....especially on a car that old.

Relax, you have nothing to worry about as this is completely normal. The electric fan is almost a direct connection to the battery... the only thing not keeping it running ALL the time is a thermostatic switch in the water outlet cover.

So yes, you should heed the warnings that Honda puts out telling you that fan can come on at any moment... it truly can. Of course, it truly won't unless the temperature of the themostatic switch is above it's set point. When temperature comes down, the switch resets and the fan turns off.

My "90 Prelude (250,000 miles and still going strong as my daily driver) has the exact same thing your "91 Accord has. Unlike some American cars I used to drive, Honda lets the engine keep itself cool when everything is turned off... if it needs it of course.

Then again, the water passages in these old vehicles might just be as plugged as grandpa's arteries... and not registering the temperature resonses as quickly as it used to. That would mean the fan would take an excessive amount of time to come on and then take another excessive amount of time to turn off as the gunk acts like insulation (responds slowly to change).

So... you have two choices:

1. Live with it. After all, it is working and keeping the engine cool.
or
2. Buy a new temperture switch. ($34.25 from Honda) See item 15 in the following link:

Good luck!

89-93 Accords normally turn the fan on even after the vehicle is shut off. It's normal, do not panic or be concerned.

Why do they do this? Many reasons. As a technician, I'm sure it's to aid the cooling system because your coolant temperature actually rises once the vehicle is shut off.

Yes its normal for older cars but later they got smart and realized that it was no need to have a fan cool off a car that wasn't running they is no need to cool off a engine that has been turned off but it took the auto makers a while to realize that so it is normal by design.

your car is to do this,,it helps cool the engine off,,if it didn't it wouldn't last long,,most newer cars will run a little while after you cut the key off,,if it stays on for a very long time,,you have a bad relay for the cooling fan motor,,otherwise it wont hurt it to run for a minute or two,,as long as it does shut off,,this is pretty much normal,,i do it for a living,,i hope this help,s.

Most of the cases it is normal, however it is recommended to check your cooling system jus to ensure it is working perfectly because if it is not in good condition it can take longer to cool your engine, the consequence is that your battery will be wasted in less time.

Mine does the same thing. I have an 1990 Acura Integra which has a Honda motor in it. On hot days it's normal for it to do that.

ya, it's got a small thermostat inside of it that regulate the temp. and if it's still extremely hot (i would be too if i had thousands of tiny explosions going off inside of me lol) so when u cut the engine, your engine is still extremely hot (especially w/super heat wave we've been having) so it stays off to cool it until it's at a set temp and then it turns off.

It should be fine, but if you maybe have a bad alternator you could get it fixed or just wire it in through a toggle switch so you can turn it off manualy.
