They may want inside or signify the threat of rain. To prevent flies from gathering anywhere, simple fill a sandwich baggie half-filled with plain water, close the baggie, and nail it to a door post or supportive wood beam.

What does this do? The glare of sunlight or artificial light from the reflection of the water in the baggie is bothersome to the eye configurations the flies have--it hurts them, probably gives them eye strain or headaches.

Sometimes, flies will gather even when the bags are hanging, but for the most part, the pests do not like them and will avoid your area.

I keep these water bags posted on the support beams to my carport year round--and it works!

Try it; you'll like it and even to the point of explaining why to your neighbors.

They use the sunlight to navigate like most insects your door is just in their flight path for one thing. If their foraging for food they can smell the garbage pail and are trying to get in and have a meal.. and as one of the other answers said they do the same thing on windows and walls (something to hold onto while resting)they will also cling to the underside of things when they sense rain is going to fall

Other people say that flies are attracted by evil spirits. Baalzebub literally means "Lord of the Flies".

Alternatively, you might have something in or around your house that smells yummy to them. Some bushes or flowers attract flies. Rotten fruit or garbage also, of course.

hmmmm of course we cant see or feel it but dont you notice they do that around windows too? or that certain stores have an air thing at the door? its because there is a suckion (however i spell it) that pulls them in and keep them in. so they have to fight against the air current to get back in...kinda like us swimming aginst the tide.
