I'm getting ready to purchase my own own cello and return my rental, but I've got a choice and I'm leaning towards the second one:

A full-size Knilling cello

or

A full size Suzuki cello(which isn't manufactured anymore due to the fact that it was common for the neck to crack and break. But it has a very nice sound...)

(Please don't answer with something like ..."Sorry,don't know much about cellos" or something, because that's not what I want to know.Just don't answer if you can't help.)

The choice of an intrsrument is very subjective. Make sure you are getting a solid wood, not a laminated cello. Get the one that feels the best when you play it, have the Suzuki checked out by a luthier in your area to look for any cracks or defects that could lead to repairs in the future. I would buy the one that sounds the best with you playing it. Recently I bought a new cello after playing several. I found one for under $2000 that felt better than some that were in the $5,000-6,000 range. If you have narrowed it down to these two choices, just play them both and go for the one with the best sound.

I just bought my first cello last month. Go with the one that feels and sounds the best. You are buying an instrument, not a car or stereo. Trust your intuition as to which one you will enjoy more.

I played cello in high school. The 1st one, i wouldn't want to put up with a cracked cello. Keep playing and making music, You have a gift few people have.
