.SWF is the shockwave file that is a movie file published by any user using the Macromedia software flash. .FLA is the original editable file that rests on the users comp and you can use the sothink SWF decompiler to deconstruct and edit swf files.

the "s" part in the ".swf" extension stands for "shock"
the whole ".swf" stands for:
"shockwave flash object"

they are shockwave flash files.. the type of files used for fancy visuals on most websites.. quicktime can play such files.. elz you could download the flash player from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
and this will be used to open such files in your browser..

Shockwave files, from Macromedia. You should be able to play it in your browser as long as you have the shockwave plug-in.

If you have the Flashplayer plugin installed, you should be able to drag and drop the file into a browser window to play it.
