various FAQs seem to differ on this catergorically, so i assume it depends on the type of jewelry.

I have gone through metal detectors wearing 3-8g surgical steel 3/4" barbells and on another occasion wearing 3-8g titanium 3/4" barbells. Neither time did they set it off.
However, my underwire has set them off before.
Generally, you just need to wear a non-ferrous metal in them. SSS and titanium are acceptable but if they have the sensitivity set really high, near any metal you have on your body will set them off.
Usually you just have to say "pierced" and they understand without having to see them.

I wear stainless steel labret & tongue rings and plugs in my ears. I have never had a problem with them setting off metal detectors. Metal detectors are looking for high density metal. But if you are still worried, you can try titanium or acrylic.

Smallest amount of metal possible. Either thin, short or non metalic. Non-ferrous (iron based) metals such as gold have a reputation of not setting detectors. Especially since they're looking for iron (i.e. guns, knives, etc), not jewelry.

I go thru metal detectors all the time (most of my piercings are made of stainless steel), and i've never set one off.

I have stainless steel in mine (nipples and navel) and have never set off a metal detector.

If you're worried about having to show your piercing to a butch female security guard, Use the clear plastic bars, You can buy them for 2-3 dollars from any piercist.

idk but you oughto see if they have the ones they do surgery with...i have 4 mettal pins in my right wrist and they dont go off at all
