I am asking because a lot of people I know who claim to be liberal are also anti-Christian, but are pro-Pagan, Muslim, ect...is this right? or is it just in my area of the country?

Its just your area of the country. Personally I am offended as an American that we have been conditioned to think in divisive terms like liberal and conservative / red state/blue state etc etc.

Why doesn't anyone see that these phrases are meant to insure that we don't participate in intelligent discussions but instead provide a pretext to make sure that we won't share ideas...only put-downs. This is not America.

If I were you, I would pick Fr Chuck's answer as the Best Answer.

Just about every other answer to this question so far, is nothing but a bunch of morons talking out of their @ss!

This Country is going to continue going down hill, until people learn to deal with disagreements, in a better way.

The fault is on both Conservatives and Liberals but a majority of the bashing is done by the Conservatives. If you disagree with the Cons, you are considered Anti-American, Anti-Christian, etc.

I take offense when Cons consider some of my beliefs Anti-American...I served proudly in the Army and I would never had done so, if I was Anti-American. It was my choice to serve and I was proud to do it!

I am a Liberal and I strongly believe in God and I Love the USA and would gladly, give my life for this Country.

Why?

Because this Country gives me something that you cannot find in most of the other Nations around the World...Freedom to speak my mind and agree or disagree with my Government.

Here is some news for you Cons...the USA will never become a Christian Republic, so stop trying to make it one! As I said, I do believe in God but I also believe that Religion has no place in any Government.

liberal and conservative -- whatever those terms are supposed to mean -- fall within the same framework of assumptions. That is the fact that those who control information control the way people think and it shouldn't shock you to learn that elections are essentially bought and the pruchasers interests are the reason we see the Government acting the way it is. I don't remeber anything on the ballot saying to me (or your freinds who call themselves liberals or conservatives) asking "DO YOU WANT TO HAVE A WAR WITH IRAQ?" never happened...

As far as Christianity is concerned you could re-watch the debates between John Kerry and George W. Bush (if your stomach can stay settled) and see where liberal politicians like Kerry stand on the issue of God. I think you will find that although he did not appeal to Left Christians he did state his faith clearly and directly.

The link, in your neighborhood, between so-called liberals and Pagan, Muslim, anti-Christian may have more to do with those people reacting to Bush and his messianic mission (a very un-Godly statement) and possibly them just having an open mind.
There is nothing wrong with Muslims, many so-called Christians like Bush and Ann Coulter would like people to hate Muslims, which is why they are certainly NOT Christians in any sense of the word. But a look at the Koran and some education about Islam would show you that Christians are close with Muslims in many ways and Islam is a peaceful religion, a beautiful one... and people should respect that. In both faiths, in all faiths, there are corrupt people "Deciders" who decide to politicize God. It is unfair and wrong.

Christ began with love and worked through peace and understanding.

The United States is founded (in part) on religious freedom and tolerance. Don't let anyone try to cloud that issue. It is patriotic to accept others beliefs, even Pagan beliefs, these holy war ideas not only harm the country, they destroy Christianity and the faith attached to that religion.

peace.

Er...there is such a thing as a liberal Christian. I happen to know at least three or four that I can think of off the top of my head.

And even though I am liberal and am not Christian, that does not, by any means, mean that I am anti-Christian. In fact, I find that whole religion fascinating. The only Christians that discourage me are the ones who are uncaring and insulting. These people aren't exactly the majority of the faith, but they are, unfortunately, the loudest.

Some of the most Christian people I know are raving liberals. The Democrats tend to have what I call "Jesus Christians" - you know - empathy for others, compassion for the poor, a preference to peace over war. Basically, everything Jesus taught. Republicans tend to be "Old Testament Christians" - hating gays (which Jesus never did), favoring the death penalty, favoring an "eye for an eye" type justice and political responses....

However, because the right-wing is SO dominated by the evangelical right, atheists are also drawn to the Democratic party. I know plenty of atheists, as well. They aren't really "pro-Muslim", as much as they are against the Christian right dictating to them how they should live their lives. That's an important distinction.

I'm liberal but honestly think I am a good Christan. Just because I am open minded and caring and believe we all have rights doesn't make me a non-believer. Christ never said to keep our minds closed or our ideas. I believe a christian is how one treats others and actually lives the golden rule. Isn't telling someone that they are not a christian because they do not have the same beliefs a little like bigotry. I have no problem reaching out and helping anyone who is in need. If it is shelter or clothing or a hug.

You can be liberal on many things and christian, you can want national health care, you can want illegal aliens to be forgiven and allowed to bring all of thier familes here to be citizens.
You can want no borders at all and do away with individual nations rights and have a North American Union and still be a Christian,

Sadly because of poor bibical teachings of many churches, you can even be pro abortion and pro gay and still be christaiin in the wide teaching since you beleive in Christ for your salvation, you are just not following the teachings of Christ very well

And in general a Muslim would be very conserviate in most of thier beliefs if they actually follow thier religious teachings, even more so than Christians,

And you can have a Pagan who beleives in pro life, who believes in private retirement over social security, and believes in individual gun ownership and more

I doubt if anyone is completely one way or another

OK. What is the most important lesson that Jesus taught?

"Do to others as you would have them do to you." Luke 6:31

How can a group (many conservatives) preach about hatred (homosexuals, athiests, liberals, illegal immigrants, Muslims, Arabs, etc.) claim to be better Christians than those who preach equality, tolerance, and respect (most liberals)?

I would have too say most liberals are anti-christian....not all of them but pretty much well most of them.... The vast majority of Republicans are Christian, but there are some who profess too be Christians but are actually just giving lip services ......

For the most part Republicans have moral Christian values....too were as the Democrats....left wing liberals have more of a secular view on things....

The liberal cares what the world things of them too were as the Christian Republican cares about what God says too be right...

One can call oneself a Christian but with out the acceptance of Jesus Christ as ones lord and savior....one is just living a lie.

Liberals have views that are against Christian values and tilting more on atheists and Islamic practices. Thus, they are branded sometimes as Anti-Christians due to their liberal stand.
