A cubic foot of water weighs 62.4 pounds. How many gallons are in a cubic foot (or vice versa)?

Our system of measures for liquids is messed up. There are four quarts in a gallon, and each quart is 32 ounces.

32 ounces is two pounds, so a gallon should be eight pounds, and ten gallons ought to be eighty pounds.

But that's only if you believe a liquid ounce of water weighs an ounce.

Depends on the temperature of the water and the air pressure. Water is its most dense state at 4 degrees C, so water at 4 degrees C would weigh more than water at 40 degrees C.

Assuming the density of the water is 1 g/mL

We have 10 gallons = 37.854 L = 37.854 kg * 2.204 lb/kg = 83.430 lbs.

Around 8 pounds per gallon...so about 80 pounds.

10 gallons = 10 * 3.7856 kilograms
= 37.856 kilograms

= 2.2 * 37.856 pounds
= 83.28 pounds

10 gallons weigh exactly 83.28 pounds.
