My dad introduced me to Classic Country ever since I was a small kid... I adore Patsy Cline, George Jones, Hank Williams Sr., the Statler Bros, the Kingston Trio... the list goes on and on...

No kids yet, Cherokee... but you bet they're going to love the classics too when the time comes. ;)

My parents turned me onto Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles just like you. But They also introduced us to Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Creme, Eric Clapton, The Greatful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Ray Charles, Stevie Nicks, the Doors, and the Who and there are more. I like all the music that they used to listen to. So much better than pop and rap.

My dad was in the Army and we moved a lot. I remember being 4 years old and driving across Canada (we were moving from Alaska), and the last thing Dad did before he left Ft. Richardson was buy up a lot of used 8-tracks. I fell in love with all the Motown songs and they've stuck with me. My kids are 5 and 6, and they can sing along to a lot of Motown, as well as a lot of 80s pop that I learned to enjoy from an older sister. My mom kinda had no taste in music, or very limited, so the only thing I remember vaguely appreciating of her albums when I was coming along was Dwight Yoakam. I can appreciate good OLD country but can't stand the new crap. Nora Jones is the best thing to come along lately.

When I was a kid, we had a lot of musicals: My Fair Lady, Flower Drum Song, Brigadoon, Camelot, King and I, South Pacific, Oliver, Gigi, Music Man. (Broadway versions of these)

I have loved these all my life and still do.

I have no kids, so can't address part II.

Also, Mom was into folk music, like Pete Seeger and Peter, Paul, and Mary. Still love 'em!

Can't tell you how thrilled I am to learn that the Beatles have survived unto the third generation (and counting!)

I need to qualify my answer by telling you that I'm almost 50, and my musical tastes are unusual for someone my age.

My father turned me on to The Pointer Sisters, but that's all.

My kids (25 and 22) don't listen to The Pointer Sisters, but they do listen to a TON of stuff that they picked up from me: Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman...

My parents, mostly my dad, turned me on to the same stuff you've mentioned, just the classic rock. My daughter loves any music my husband and I listen to, which is everything from Johnny Cash to The Beatles to punk, alternative, classical, country, Christian of every kind(my daughter loves Casting Crowns' Lifesong CD), jazz, classical...we listen to pretty much everything except rap. Music is life!
