For starters, I use a mac and SEw800i cell phone.

depending on your phone and your computer, the process can get a bit technical, but it's never as hard as you think.

first, choose your tone. if it's a song, you may want to cut it down to about 30 seconds so it doesn't take up too much memory, and you can get the part you like best. I edit my music on 'sound stage' which came standard on my mac.

next, you have to know what kind of tones your phone supports because you may need to convert the file to that particular format. the usual formats are .wav, .mp3, or .amr. You may need to convert them using a different program; I use ffmpegx.

Now you have to transfer the file to your phone. Hopefully you have bluetooth for wireless transfers. if not, you'll might have to use your IR, data cable or memory card. Once transfered, move your file into your ringtones folder and select it as your new tone.

With a little practice, you'll be ripping new tones like a pro in no time :-)
