Well, first of all let's not start by lying. I have four children and you would think I would have known when I was pregnant, but two of them were complete SURPRISES! I made it a rule to not tell anyone(except daddy) until I was about 3 to 4 months along.(Only because I had a miscarriage one time at 2 months and it was terrible and heart breaking and then I had to go and let everybody that I had told I was pregnant that I had lost the baby. So, let's go with that rule and then you can not only feel a little more secure about your pregnancy, but also you wont have to be a liar, or deceiver in any way. If nothing alse in this world be truthful, with others and most of all yourself. Remember, your could be bringing a life into this world, and you are not going to want them to lie to you! As for firing you, I don't see why, unless it's for missing work for appointments. Be sure to schedule them on your days off. I don't think that they can fire you for getting pregnant reguardless of benefits. They just don't have to pay your maternity leave.(I know, that happen to me) I believe they will hold your job for one year or they could have a policy that doesn't require them to hold your position. You need to read up on your policies at your particular job. Wish you all the best. Stay true!!

Your employer cannot fire you on grounds of pregnancy. I think it's part of Equal Rights or whatnot. However, some employers will then look for other reasons to fire you. It's not right, but it's how things are. Most women hold off at least until they are 3 or 4 months along anyway, just in case of a miscarriage, so I think holding off on telling them should be fine.

It's against the law to be fired for being pregnant, but it's a stupid law, of course. It's not your employer's fault you got knocked up. Now you are slow and emotional and soon to be on an extended vacation.

No, they can't fire you for being pregnant, and if they do, you have a good case to sue them. Even if they do not offer health benefits, they will have to provide you with a certain amount of maternity leave, especially if the company has more than 50 employees. Check with your HR department for more details.

Legally they can not fire you for being pregnant. However I would still be very careful about doing my job by the book because I found out I was pregnant and when I turned five months my job LOOKED for a reason to fire me and when they couldn't find one they set me up for it to look like i was stealing.. so i got screwed either way..

Hunnie you can not get fired because you are pregnant. Its not a law. If you do, when you go to the un-employment office make sure you tell them you got fired because you re pregnant. It would screw them BIG time.

I don't think it is against the law. You are under no obligation to tell your employer. It might be an issue if you were getting insurance through them because some have a waiting period for maternity.

During my last pregnancy, I was let go because my emotions got the best of me one day and I had to leave early. It was found that I was wrongly fired and I got unemployment. MORAL OF THE STORY: They CANNOT fire you for being pregnant. It's discrimination and they can get into trouble for it.

It is against the law and if they fire you because of that you can sue the pants off of them. Its discrimination. Tell them at 3 months(first trimester). That is usually the norm.

They can't. It's federal law. You can tell them you are pregnant any time you wish.
If you have morning sickness or if your doctor's appointments will cause you to miss work, you might want to say something prior to that. Otherwise, it's completely up to you.
