I have seen it more times than I want to admit. There are not enough threads in the heads of these engines to hold the spark plug, and over time, they weaken, and POW! A new dent in the hood. Ford suggests a head replacement, but that can be thousands of dollars, around 2500 to be exact. I have helicoiled about 10 of these myself with no failures, and that is the option I would suggest. It is labor intensive, and hard to get to,so it still will not be cheap as far as labor goes. Most of the spark plugs are tucked in under the cowl panel. Don't expect any help from Ford, though. Even if thousands of these failures have occured, they still say it is not a design problem, but they redesigned the heads if you order a replacement. You tell me! As many as I have had to repair, I expect a recall nightmare any day now. That should be fun:(

Before you heilcoil it or replace the head they make a insert that rplaces the threads . It is made by heilcoil and can be found at oreillys .

pretty rare on a V10 but still the same concept. Sucks to be you though, you either need a new head, or if you want to, you might be able to get away with helecoil, but that is sketchy.
