Well the only way to see if he truly means what he says and does is to challenge him. Test him. Put him in "difficult" situations. And what's very important talk to him a lot, find out what his preferences are, cause in the end he'll admit it. Sometimes guys are very shy with this kind of things, first of all because of his other male friends...and second because if he is a friend (not a boyfriend) of yours he is afraid that revealing his feelings towards you might lose your friendship which he values very much...So challenge him to respond to your flirting and if he does...well congratulations from me

He likes you. Most guys (I know) won't spend that much time or show that much interest in you if there wasn't some interest.
Just play...have fun. Don't get all "serious" on him. Let the relationship progress naturally.
