7,000 of net new jobs were in manufacturing, where wages and benefits are still the best. The big increases were in construction (a gain of 46,000) and especially services (a gain of 135,000), the lowest-wage sector of the economy.
Roughly one in every six jobs in manufacturing has disappeared since 2001--a net decline of 2.8 million.
The difference has been made up by employment growth in the service sector.
In fact, the overall net growth in private-sector employment--a net increase of 2 million between 2001 and the projection for the end of 2006--is almost entirely accounted for by the increased military budget.
Simply put, the money that’s disappearing from working people’s paychecks is showing up on the bottom lines in Corporate America.
What happens when all we do is work in the service industry and these Corporations move as they always do, following international markets?
In every part of their lives, U.S. workers are having a harder time making ends meet.

Leogirl0804 - typical conservative move, switch what I wrote to something else then argue that, nice try, read my statistic, it is factual.
The well-publicized mass layoffs of union workers in the auto industry, for example, aren’t the exception in industrial America--they’re the rule. The difference has been made up by employment growth in the service sector.
I am not a Democrat, try reading a book for once instead of judging it by its cover.

It does not matter how many jobs they create or how many people are employed/unemployed, if people in America cannot afford to get to work because of the price of gas, or keep their house warm in the winter because of the price of gas, or receive competent health care because of the price of (gas) pharmaceuticals- what difference does it make. It is all just another dog and pony show the government is trying to sell us to account for their office and the recent pay raise that they have voted for themselves.
The sad fact is that it is our fault, Joe and Joan American who just sit back and let them take our rights, little by little and raise our taxes nickle, by nickle. Then, they manage to keep us so beat down in the bs of trying to get by day by day, that when they do throw us a crumb from their table of excess, we think that we are feasting on a banquet.

People from different countries and nation migrate to US for higher educations and job. No doubt that the increase in jobs will help the economy to some extend but generally the people who work there and are from other nations send all their earnings backt to there countries and which will surely affect the economy of US and will enrich the economy of respected nation. The GDP calculation will also be affected but to the outsourcing and hence as the time passes so will the US economy

OK jobs seem like they suck
If you go back to Bob Riech's numbers He claimed we need 225K jobs a month to maintain America. That covers all replacement positions for retiring workers plus new jobs created by R&D adjusted by the jobs that are ending under normal social trends (like black smiths)
These are good numbers. What they do not cover is the new War machine positions provided by the need for weapons and the techonology of war.
When you hear about job loss it rarely mentions the nillion plus jobs that have been added to civilian military and weapons development. (It;s supposed to be secret that we have a war)
So war is good for business the job market is strong and the ecconomy is strong.
If you have friends that need work suggest to them the possability of making napalm as a carrier choice.

America is changing these days. we are becoming an information and service economy, so naturally the manufacturing industry will decline. why less manufacturing? its more expensive to operate here in America, more specifically to comply with our tax code, that socialist governments become cheaper to operate in. what can be done? its called HR 25. THE FAIR-TAX!
www.fairtax.org this site will answer all your questions.

Leogirl, I work in high tech, the semiconductor industry to be specific. I don't see many new jobs created here in the USA, but I do see much of the industry shifting to Asia.

You are grossly misinformed in your statement at the jobs lost since 2001. This sharp decline began in 1997. do your homework
There are more and more jobs daily in the tech field.
What plan do you think the Democrats have? unions? lol......they caused all this ......

Why ask the question, you answered it. You have the stats right there. I totally agree. And if I didn't I would say so. Sooner or later though you may have to step off the soapbox as until you ask for solutions its a non-issue.
