I am a dancer for my college and we're not too big into the scene yet. If anyone has tips for make-up/appearance, exercise, team building, uniforms, presentation/performing, publicity, etc. I would be really grateful!

Go to a wesbite of a college team that is been around for a while.
Stanford www.sbdt.org
Berkeley
MIT

Go to www.usabda.org - this is amateur dance organization. They can be good resource if you contact your local chapter.

Coaches - go for the best ones in your area. They usually charge almost the same price as not so good ones, but you will be getting a lot more for your money from the good coaches.

Makeup and hair - if you mean competition/performance:
Long hair goes in a bun, with lots of gel. Short hair gets a lot of hairspay. General rule of thumb - hair should not move as you dance.

Practice clothes - anything that is comfortable. Don't waste money on uniforms at the beginning - you'll need it for other important things like coaching and printing your flyers.

Competition outfits - at the beginning, you don't need much. For performances, you might try to look for donations in form of used costumes.

good dance websites include but not limited to
www.ballroomdancers.com
www.dancesport.uk.com

I hope this helps for starters. E-mail me at samba8jive at yahoo dot com

Well I am a dance teacher and a high school pom coach. Well I use varsity for costumes. You should have a sequin top and dance pants, in your school colors. Um poms I get from pomexpress.com. We have 2 color metallic 5 inch. That's standard. We did fund-raising through Avon and car washes for uniforms, poms and shoes. Call up your local radio station for promotion. They will have the team introduce a song sometimes. Our radio station comes out to the car wash fundraisers we have. My dance teams appearance is high pony tail, with bangs split on both sides of their head. And lots and lots of glitter and hair spray!
Same for the make up, it needs to be visible to the crowd that's sitting in bleachers 2 miles away. So we wear dark lip stick, and gobs of eyeliner. And GLITTER! I like glitter, cant you tell?
