2x-5=14 add 5 to each side
2x=19 divide each side by 2
x=19/2=9.5

same for the other
3x+7=-4 subtract 7 from each side
3x=-11 divide by 3
x= -11/3 = -3.667

You need to make the x stand by itself on one side of the equation.

For your first example:
2x-5=14
remove the five from each side of the equation. so...
2x -5 +5 = 14 + 5
then remove the two from each side of the equation. so...
2x / 2 =(14+5) / 2
At the end, your equation should look like x = (14+5)/2

For your second example
3x+7 = 4
Remove the 7 from each side. so...
3x +7 -7 = 4-7
Then remove the 3. so...
3x/3 = (4-7) /3
At the end, it looks like this... x=(4-7) / 3

Hope this helps!

make them equal to each other then subtact X's and divide so add 10 to the second one to make 2x-5=3x+17 ok now subtract X'S -5=x+17 so its easy from there X= -22 i may be wrong i havent done this is a while

3x+7=-4
-7 -7 you have to first get the varible by itself
_______so you subtract 7 from each side
3x=-11 then rewrite the new equation
then you need to divide -11 by 3
3x/3=-11/3
x=-3.6666666666666666666666666666667
that is your answer

remember you need to have X by it self so the best way to solve this is as follow:
2x-5 =14
add to both side so you have 2x=19 now divide both side by 2 and you will get x=9.5 because 19/2 = 9.5. furthermore this is just common algebraic

3 * x + 7 = 4

minus 7 from both sides. (since you are adding seven, you do the opposite. make sure you subtract seven from both sides!)

3 * x + 7 - 7 = 4 - 7

equals

3 * x = -3

now divide by 3 on both sides. (since you are multipling 3 origionally, you want to divide by three. make sure you do it on both sides!)

3 * x / 3= -3 / 3

equals

x = -1

now try to submit -1 in for x.

3 * -1 + 7 = 4

hope that helps.
