You can use a hand pump by sticking it down the fill tube and pull some fluid out. If you go to the parts store and get a bottle of LubeGaurd in the red bottle and put that in it, it will go back to working OK. Run the vehicle until good an hot, park on level surface, with the engine running check the fluid level. You may have to check it as many as ten times to get it right but you will. They can be a pain in the a-- to check because it wants to drag fluid up the tube and you get an incorrect reading. Hard shift sometimes is not a bad thing. In order for a tranny to have a soft shift it must slip some to make the shift soft. I have a shift kit in my race truck, and it shifts so hard you would think its going to break, but its been doing that for about 5 years with no problem. Hope i have been a help!

When you drain it, check for little pieces of metal in your transmission pan. If it's none there, you should be ok if you fill it to the right amount. Be sure to check for these pieces b/c that's signs of trouble.
