The media blows everything out of proportion. In one area of Atlanta. The crime rate went down 20%. The media coverage went up 600%. You getting shot is about as likely as getting struck by lightning. As long as you hang around a good crowd, You'll be fine. The media is stupid. Especially CNN. You should think about what they are NOT telling you instead of what they are telling you. There are a bunch of things the media does to get us scared. It's all an act. Don't they have anything better to talk about? Real problems? Like the 30 000 people dying a day in Africa because of famine. About smoking or the food we eat. Or even better. GOOD NEWS! When was the last time you saw a story that was good news on the news? That's why I never watch the news.

Everybody is freaking out a little and in some ways we all should be concerned. But not to the point of agoraphobia. The information overload is caused by too much negative and fear broadcasting going on. Its time to take a break and turn it off. As a consumer and tax payer. The markets and government want your full attention and are hitting on your mind at every level, whether you can handled it or not. the world spins and they will just continue to do what they do. You have to just modify and filter some of it out for now and not worry. Take a breather and go for a walk in the short term and clear your mind. Be in control of yourself first. The world will go on with or without you. The madness that is going on is brought to you by mad people who cannot enjoy life unless they control everything and its their folly that they can't. Be at peace you can turn it off and read a book, enjoy a meal, and not buy into the world and its little selfish issues. You can only control what you do and think. Start with enjoying life and those you care about. Vote to change the big picture. But much is out of balance, but won't effect you unless you let it.

Not going crazy, It's gone crazy since the 1970's. Too late to go.
Please stop blaming everything on the media. The problem is too many people allowing their children to do whatever, and say whatever they want.
The governements don't help either. Anyone under 18 can commit any crime they want to and have very little consequences to pay. If their names could at least be released by the media they would think twice about what they do.

Yes, the world is crazy! But you know that's where I think the Religions get there idea of whether you go to "heaven or hell"!
I think it's what we do now, which decides not whether "we" go to heaven or hell, but what we make of the world we live in for our children, grandchildren etc.. Heaven or Hell? At the moment it looks like the world is turning into hell, and the media do blow everything out of proportion, but how do you stop them ? They are our only source of information? As Serj from System of a Down said about government..."YOU DEPEND ON OUR PROTECTION, YET YOU FEED US LIES FROM THE TABLECLOTH"

Yes, it has been for awhile. The older generation called World War I the war to end all wars. Our time period has been marked by major earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, increasing crime, disrespect for authority, no natural love among families, wars, diseases that cannot be cured, etc. It was all foretold in the Bible. But think about just the things that have happened since 9/11! The Enron scandal, the priest abuse scandal, the mailbox anthrax situation, the fires in different states, and there is so much more I can't even remember (SARS). Yes, I agree with you.

the media takes in information that will draw attention to the company they are working for. It's all about money! they blow things out of proportion and wish for high sales. Apparently it works because a LOT of the tabloids are still in business. If we stick to worrying about what happens in our own homes, lives, etc, then these ragmags and media pests wouldn't have a job.

The world will always have issues and conflict. It will make you nuts if you try to read something into everything.
I feel like individuals are going crazy when I read some of the posts on here. Perhaps Jerry Springer should have a separate answer site?
Thanks for breaking up tonight's question with a good one.

The world's been in chaos every since humans evolved. With today's media, we are more aware of what is going on and it seems too much or scary. Just keep a positive outlook and do what is best for your sanity.

I think it's partly the media's fault, but being an editor in chief I can understand what's going on. Because the world is so connected, we hear about tragedies in other places more than we did before mass communication increased (Internet, phones, etc).
