There is this stuff that people use to make old paint on cars look good again. It works by taking a very thin layer of paint away to show the fresh paint underneath. In Australia we call it a "Cutting compound".
Auto shops might call it "Cut and polish".
Anyway, I use it on my discs and it works, but not on really bad scratches, like ones from keys or a knife. It does work on the swirly scratches from carpet or from rubbing against other CD's DVD's or game discs, even the black ones.
If you go to an auto shop, get the finest or most gentle one they can give you. Even tell them what it is for, and they will work out if they have what you need.
Oh yeah, It's really cheap to buy! And your dad or boyfriend will be able to use it on their cars too.
Everybody wins 8-)

Buff them with Brasso. A $3-4 tin of the stuff will last you nearly a lifetime.
Just apply it perpendicular to the scratch, and then allow it to dry completely. Buff it off with a dry cloth, and you should be good to go. For bigger scratches you might have to do it 2-3 times.
Note: This won't work if you've got some hideous gash in the CD, it's not a miracle cure.

use a light car wax
this will not remove the scratches but just a tempory batch
the cd will sound great but after a day the wax will begin to dry out and fall into your cd player.
the best solution is to wax the cd then copy it
keep the original as a backup and use the copy.
