throttle cable out of whack?

2006-08-02 13:57:51 · answer #1 · answered by mdjohnsonusc 2 · 0 0

If you mean from 0 rpm to 7000 rpm or even from 0 rpm to 700 rpm, that is highly unlikely to happen, because motors do not run at 0 rpm. 700 rpm is normal for idle, 2000 to 4500 is normal in casual driving, and 7,000 rpm will do serious damage on cars other than racers.

If what you say is correct, then perhaps you have a bad tachometer which would say 0 when it is really going faster.

A knowledgeable person can tell by listening to your motor and looking at the tachometer if the tach is correct or not.

I am no mechanic however I had a similar problem only it was with my speedometer and gas gage ... and my real problem was a short in the wires or something that lead to my control panel... so u might wanna have a look at that ... but my best advice is to take it to a shop and have someone who knows what they are dealing with take a look at it ... well ... if ya can afford it ... I just had a friend who knows a lot about cars fix mine but with my way there are no guarantees that it's gonna get done 100% right ... :) Good Luck...

I am assuming you mean when you are driving it. Also you didn't say if you have a manual or auto transmission. But if it is manual your clutch assembly is going bad in some way. If it is auto then your linkage is going bad. Go to a transmission shop as soon as you can, DO NOT WAIT. It may save you hundreds of dollars, but it will be expensive regardless. And I would have the vehicle towed to prevent further damage.

IT IS YOUR THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. It is giving the computer false readings and sending too much fuel to your engine even when you barely press on the throttle.
