I am a mother of three and I am at home right now, but we could REALLY use some extra income right now. Does anyone know of any work at home bussines's that are legit. Mainly stuffing envelopes or something similar. Alot of them want you to pay start up costs but I cant afford to be ripped off. Can anyone help me, I would appreciate it. thks

The best thing to do is start your own business and not become attached to someone else's money-making scheme. Ideally, embark on a journey of skill-building and learn as you go. Start by picking a hobby or skill that interests you, then think about ways to turn that into multiple streams of revenue. For example, start writing articles about your hobby and put them on a website, put related ads on the site and get paid for the clicks, start selling items on eBay that relate to your hobby, and use that to drive web traffic to your site, find and research companies that offer products that relate to the hobby and articles that you're writing, and join their affiliate programs as well. The key here is diversity, and not putting all your eggs in one basket, and if done well it will lead to multiple large checks in your mailbox each month.

Yeah, that's a mouthful, and when it isn't taken one small, detailed step at a time, it can seem overwhelming. I'm in the process of putting together a web tutorial on this very thing, and yes, all of this is free, except for the part about the web site. Yes there ARE "free" services out there like Tripod and GeoCities, but when you want to deal with companies and sell ad space and merchandise, this is NOT an option.

The good news is that it's incredibly reasonable -- less than $8 a year for the domain name and less than $4 a month for the web hosting. But that can come down the road. And even if you don't end up with your own profitable site, you'll have some very marketable skills. The link to my site is below, though at the moment it's just the registration and log-in and a free blog. If I can manage to tear myself away from Yahoo Answers long enough, I might just finish those articles. Inquires are welcome as well, and of course I'm looking forward to some feedback when the tutorials are up.

Yeah. Anything that requires you to pay up front is there to take your money. If you're up for it, you might try mystery shopping (not the ones who advertise, as they ALSO are out for your money). I know there's a mystery shoppers association and you can find qualified companies through them. I worked with ShopChek International for a while, though not something I could do with a full time out of the home job, so I left.
You also might look into selling on eBay--yardsales are a great source, or maybe that's the excuse you need to clean out some of the stuff that hasn't been used in two or three years? ;^) Nothin better than getting money for something you were gonna give to goodwill anyway....
Neither of these are horribly lucrative though, I warn ya.

I have a home based business. It does have a $49 investment fee, but it will be the best $49 you ever invested. It is not stuffing envelopes, but good for people who want to earn an extra income or who want to work from home. Email me and I will send you the link!

With a computer at home and internet connection, you can start earning from home, without any investment. You should choose your work at home job according to your skills and time available.
If you have a good typing speed, general and legal transcription jobs from companies like Mountain West, Tigerfish and Accutran are available. Some of these companies do not require any experience.
You can apply directly from their websites which are listed at

Medical transcription work at home is also available if you have completed a course and have relevant experience.

Most sites want you to pay a fee, but this don't mean your going to get ripped off! I have made my own site, it was free. I listed 3 work at home sites that I use, yes they require a start up fee but its worth it. You can check out my story and why I had my daughter find me jobs online.
