This winch is rated for 8000lbs which I though was a good size for a jeep. However I believe some math skills are required in order to know if the winch can actually pull something. For example, if I was pulling someone back on the road from approximently a 45 degree angle downward, (let it be a dodge neon). would I have enough power to do so? I know there are are number of variables to consider but I'm just trying to understand the basics. 8000lbs for flat ground but from a ditch, that would be different, right?

the winch will do it no problem , but it needs to be properly mounted and watched. the cable will spool up on one side if your not centered , giving you a major headache or breakage DO NOT relie on park if its auto tran set the brake choke the wheels , and if possible tie off to a tree or something solid with a strap off the rear

The 8000 pounds seem to be the load limit. The gearing will determine the exact amount you can pull. as will traction and vehicle power. There are several variables. If you put that winch on a Volkswagen beetle, you won't have much! A dealer could probably tell you what your jeep will do.

If you loop the cable back to your jeep it will double the power of the winch to 16,000 lbs. Loop the cable around something underneath the car and then bring the end loop back to one of the D-rings on the front of your jeep and then use the winch

yes, it would. The wench is design to pull the jeep out of trouble
so you should be able to pull out anything that weighs less than the jeep. Make sure you chock the wheels of the jeep, don't rely on the "park position" or the parking brake.

It will pull 8000 pounds up. Of course you have to have it mounted on something that won't break. It will have no problem puttling a Dodge Neon out of a ditch.
