Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & Repetitive Strain Injury

carpal tunnel syndrome, like the others have said.

But you also have to consider conditions that may arise at the elbow, shoulder, and neck. Proper positioning of the keyboard and mouse are going to be of utmost imprtance. Your elbows should rest at a 90 degree angle, and the keyboard should be placed about an inch or two below where your forearms rest. That is important to avoid putting stress on the shoulders/neck. Also your wrists should rest in a neutral position (not bent).

Carpal tunnel is the most common; though stress and tension headaches that can be quite severe can also occur from eye strain in looking at a computer screen too much. It is good to look away every few minutes and let the eyes refocus and rest. Also be sure to have proper support for wrist and hands when typing and do try to take a break every now and again and wring your hands and flex them to keep them from cramping up.

You are probably referring to carpal tunnel syndrome. It is not as much from the typing but rather from the position of your wrist flexion in the same position. Conservative treatment is wrist splints. Prevention is a wrist support on the mouse pad, or an ergonomic keyboard, shaping somewhat oval for a more natural wrist position.
