can u explain what hammer on and pull of refer to

a hammer on is just hitting the string with a finger, usually your ring finger,on the fretboard with your left hand. a pull off is getting a finger underneath the string with your right hand and pulling up on it. kind of a disco thing that was way overdone.

Its most commonly done when you quickly apply pressure to the string with out picking it and pull of,Hammer your finger on and pull off.
