Vice city & San andreas, both are brilliant & I love them & have
finished vice city 6 times & san andreas 4 times!

Unlike the close-minded, yet understandably misguided answerer near the top, I think San Andreas did a great job of not actually going too far with the urban ghetto thug thing, while still keeping that GTA feel we all know and love, and this is coming from someone who hates rap. Not only that, but it's huge. WAY bigger than any other GTA game out there, and well worth the money if you ask me. That's why I say San Andreas is the best (currently) GTA game of them all.

Vice City just by a hair. San Andreas is a classic of gaming, though.

I would have to say Vice City...GTA III is almost as good and San Andreas is both too urbanly stupid and the tasks are mostly luck based rather than skill based.
So if you like rap crap and think that lifestyle is cool, you would probably like San Andreas better. I think all rap, 'thugs' and 'playas' is the stupiest crap I have ever seen, so I thought it was dumb.

thats got to be san andreas of course be cause it has great
music selection some great graphics a great storyline also
alot of playability,but that hot coffee scandal hurt it badly but
its still the best GTA.
