I have a 1991 Dodge Colt. Today I was driving to school to buy my books and the engine just suddenly stopped on me. It started fine and was running good. I tried starting it again several times and it didn't even want to turn over. I called a tow truck and have it into a service center now. The timing belt snapped about a month or two ago, so it can't be that.

The things which can make a car stop dead are too numerous. Ask your mechanic , when he calls to tell you the car is fixed.

Died suddenly and then wouldn't even turnover (you mean nothing happens when you turn the key right) sounds like the engine might have froze up, something is preventing the engine from spinning, worst case senario is you blew the engine. Blowing an engine only means the engine has major internal damage. Buy a Subaru Legacy. Sorry

Sounds like it might be the alternator, or the battery. What happens is the alternator gets bad and wont keep a charge on the battery...so then the "juice" in the car runs out and since the alternator wasnt charging the battery, it wont even start. To fix it you need to take your battery to autozone, or somewhere like that..they will check it for free to see if it is still good and can hold a charge. If it does hold a charge, most likely it's your alternator. Another problem could be a lot simpler....check the connections to your battery ( the negative and positive) and see if they got disconnected at all....if so....this is the problem. I hope you figure it out....

Sounds electrical. Was it really warm out? Is your battery dead now? Would your headlights come on when you were just sitting after trying to turn it over?
So many different things..
I really wish you good luck. It sounds like you really need your Colt to get back and forth to school.
Hey, if you get it running you should try trading it in on a down payment for a newer car.
Good Luck!!!

And I just gotta say it..........'get a FORD' ;o)

It may be your electronic ignition. I had a Jeep that would die but after it set for several minutes I could get it to start. Changed out the ignition box and everything was okay after that.

Could be a fuel pump going out in it. But who knows, as I'm stuck on it wouldn't turn over, but was running fine prior. Does it crank, but won't start?

Sounds more like driver error than car problem... Insert key -> try again, if that doesnt work, your problem is its a Dodge!
