Acne can be caused by a number of things besides heredity.
1. Release of Testosterone, girls release amounts as well during puberty and due to rising hormone levels the body secretes more natural oils clogging up skin and later resulting in acne.
2. Dirty skin, your daughter doesn't wash her face enough and has dirt and other molecules that result in acne. (No offense intended or anything)
3. Acne is a sex-linked trait. Girls get their sex-linked traits passed on from there Fathers and Boys from their Mothers. One example is if the mother has color blindness, which is a sex-linked trait, there is no way the Girl can get it, but the boy can and Vice Versa, so the Father might have a history of acne or something. Hope that helps.

Acne is not generally known as hereditary. I strongly recommend checking out www.acne.org. I'm 19 and JUST started to develop acne in the past few months, went to the dermatologist on many occasions and nothing worked. That website outlines and visually shows how to take care of your face and what to use, and rates many products. It is cheap and effective. I started following the skin care regimen and my face cleared up in just a few days, whereas the dermatologist told me it would take months and would get much worse before I saw results.

Acne, loke spots is due to the overpruduction of Oil in the Skin. Acne is Oil overproduction from a hail follicle, and a spot is when oil and external dirt mix.
A Teenager is the stage of body morphic as it takes on its adult form, so a lot of changes occur. One of which may be the skin/ body produces too much oil. It is perfectly natural, and it is not Genetic, so what happened to you is not a factor of how it will work with your daughter.
This proccess is natural, and the body will sort itself out, but you can obtian some cremes from your pharmacy which will eleviate some of the effects.

Acne is really caused by "hormonal shift"---some shift gradually, but others "accelerate"---these accelerated cases, common among "preemies" varies from individual to individual. Certain foods can aggravate it--chocolate, soft drinks, cheese. There is a really great Rx Creme--"Tazorec" availble from your Dr.---
ask for some next visit & it will clear up ....Also the skin must be kept immaculately clean---daily wipes with peroxide and/or witch hazel help immensely.

You don't mention how old your daughter is, but it could be the environment (air quality), her diet, as well as a million other things. Just be she keeps her skin clean at all times, and an astringent will probably help, as well.

you probably had a better diet when you were young as well as you probably got more excercise and sun. Also, she should be washing her face at least once to twice a day, which she probably already does, but I thought I would check.

Could well be her diet. If she eats a lot of meat, this could be causing it since meat is laden with growth hormones.
