What about if you live in a Manufactured Home? It is tied down like a trailer, so what winds speeds effect the mobile homes? I saw someone had listed the wind speeds and what they do, so I was wondering if you knew for mobile homes/manufactured homes? Pretty much the same.
I just moved in here and have had storm after storm, and it worries me.

Tie downs are a farce! What are you going to do, rebuild a mobile home? All that will be left is the frame underneath. Your stuff will be scattered for miles. They are a great starter home ,but with 60-100 mph winds...I'll keep my house sitting on a full basement and feel safe as those winds go ripping thru!

First of all, find out where the nearest shelter is and keep you important papers somewhere you can grab quickly. But you've probably already thought of that.

If you bought it new, check with the dealer and person who installed it.

If used, find out when it was put it. Call the county/city codes office and see if they can tell you what the standard was then, and if the tie-down straps are subject to wear/corrosion/metal fatigue.

Maybe call the disaster preparedness folks--Red Cross?--maybe they'd know or give you a contact.

Are you in a "trailer park"? Ask neighbors and management.

Call your newspaper and speak to the editor of the "local" section; maybe they'll do an article on it or know who would know. If you find the answer, call the newspaper and see if they're interested in doing an article to help the other mh dwellers.

Call a contractor and see if he can make your home more secure. Maybe he can put another roof over it, which would also help with climate control.

I hate to tell you, manufactured or not, if the home is going to be blown to pieces it will, foundation or not!!!
Ive seen too many stupid *** people say "oh I live in a house, im safe!!!" Our town had an f3 tornado to rip through, which tore down multiple "houses" but right beside the "house" debris... stands several "manufactured" homes. If weather hits any home just right, it is subject to blow over. Of course the older trailers are not very safe, but just because of the stereotypical trailers you see on t.v. with the trailer park trash...well that doesnt stand for all of them. :<)

Have someone excavate and install a cellar. Whether or not the manufactured home is tied down is not the issue. The structure will not withstand wind borne missiles. Things will come flying through your house like bullets.
